In ProjectWise Web, you have options on how to open your Office documents.
When you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can check out and open an Office document for co-authoring, or join a co-authoring session that is already in progress. This lets multiple users edit the same document at the same time. Just click the check box next to the document and select Open > Start Office 365 co-authoring, or if someone else is already editing the document select Open > Join Office 365 co-authoring (these options only get added to the action menu when you have a Microsoft 365 subscription and you have an Office document selected).
When the work area connection is synchronized with ProjectWise Drive, you can use open an Office document using one of these commands (these options only get added to the action menu when the work area connection is synchronized):
- Open in desktop app - checks out and downloads and opens the document in the appropriate Office desktop app
- Open read-only in desktop app - downloads and opens the document as read-only in the appropriate Office desktop app
- Go to ProjectWise Drive - opens File Explorer and takes you directly to the document in ProjectWise Drive
If you want to edit the Office document exclusively (whether or not you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, and whether or not you are using ProjectWise Drive), just check out the document from ProjectWise Web (which also downloads it), and then open it as usual in your Office desktop app.
