Problem
We need to change the IP address of the File Transfer server.
What projectwise configurations do we need to change on the servers and clients?
Solution
On the application, gateway or file transfer servers…
If you are using the dmskrnl.cfg for ProjectWise network routing then you will need to check the name resolution, routing, and gateway sections on any server that may have this server listed.
On the application server
If you set your storage area properties to point to an IP Address rather than the server name, then you will need to change it there.
(It may be necessary to restart the application service as it does cache the name of the servers it connects to)
On the client.
If you are using the ProjectWise network routing and have pointed the ProjectWise network control panel to point to this server using the ip address then you will need to change this setting on the clients
As long as your underlying network be it Microsoft or Novell, has the proper DNS listing for the new IP address, then you will not need to make any changes to ProjectWise client machines.
We are still reliant on the back bone network for address translations so if the client can ping the server name, who’s IP you changed, then there should be no problems.
