Blank Word document or Excel Sheet opens with ProjectWise Office Integration

Problem Description

After upgrading ProjectWise Explorer to SS3 from SS1, office integration with excel and office is showing a blank document.

Reason

Registry key comes in play that does not allow the class name to function correctly causing the blank document and not allowing the actual file that is copied out or checked out to open.

Steps to Resolve

In order to make any registry changes or install changes on a client machine. User might need companies IT departments Supervision or Assistance. In order to do the steps below local administrator rights & Permission to view and change applications in Program and Features is needed.


Option 1 Check if integration is working at all

  1. After the blank sheet in Excel or blank document in Word opens. Navigate to File open, if dialog in to ProjectWise opens then go to Option 3. If dialog to local client opens then go to option 2

Option 2 (Delete this heading if only one option exists)

  1. Navigate to the client machines Control Panel and open Program and Features, then click on Uninstall a program. Scroll to 'ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 3)' right click and select change.

  2. In the ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 3) - Setup Wizard, click next, select modify and next, left click idesktop Inetgration and select 'This feature will not be avaliable' click on next, then install 

  3. In SELECTseries 3 there was a add on for Office 2010 x86; In control panel scroll down to the ProjectWise office add-on and do the same steps as above: Setup Wizard, click next, left click idesktop Inetgration and select 'This feature will not be avaliable' click on next, then install.

  4. Enable the idesktop integration under the ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 3) - Setup Wizard

  5. Enable the idesktop inegration under the ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 3) Office add-on

  6. The integration now should be enabled and allow you to see in to ProjectWise via Office applications; If there is still a blank document or sheet follow the next steps.
    Option 2 (Delete this heading if only one option exists)

Option 3 Delete legacy registry key

  1. Click on the start orb and type 'RUN' in the search field. When the 'RUN' window opens type 'REGEDIT'
  2. First On the client registy Navigate to the keys below and right click and back up the registry keys. It is important to state again that Companies IT team might not allow you to change registry keys and will need assistance from the administrator of client machines.

    HKEY.CLASSES.ROOT.\Word.Document.PW
    HKEY.CLASSES.ROOT.\Excel.Sheet.PW
    HKEY.CLASSES.ROOT.\MsProject.Project.PW

  3. After backing up delete the CurVer under the registries keys mentioned above
