Problem Description
PDF and MSG indexing with SS3
the implementation guide is a little confusing on what ifilters and services are needed for PDF and MSG full text indexing, thumbnail and file property extractions.
Do we need the windows index server, or the windows search?
Solution
For PDF's full text indexing you will need the ifilter 9.0 installed on the server
For PDF thumbnail and properties you will need Acrobat reader version X installed on server
For message type docs…
Please see
http://communities.bentley.com/products/projectwise/w/projectwise__wiki/setup-windows-2008-r2-server-to-let-projectwise-full-text-search-msg-files-tn.aspx
here is a summary of this technote
You will install the windows search first, then install the add-in for messaging, then uninstall the windows search, REBOOT, then install the windows indexing.
1. Navigate to Server Manager and click Add Roles, Install File Services
2. Under Role Services make sure Windows Search Services is installed
3. Install the Add-in for Outlook saved mail (.msg file) indexing from Microsoft site below: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=134ecbb0-c162-4d07-bef3-0b602c4a79dd&displaylang=en
a. Validate the install with navigating to control panel, and selecting Programs and Features
4. Now Remove Windows Search Services (from step 2) role (reboot of the server is mandatory)
5. Now add the indexing Service from Role Services.
6. After adding the Indexing Service Add MSMQ which is mandatory for Orchestration Framework function properly
