"Error 1923 service orchestration framework could not be installed, verify permissions for
system services"

The User used in the Orchestration Framework install was a "Local Admin"
on the Integration Server box (Windows Server 2008), and had log on as a
service rights. User had full access to the database. The error was apparently not a PW Error

Solution

User tried toggling the short name instead of the domain name for the
Orchestration Framework Server, and the connection went through without
error. For some reason, the FQDN name didn't work.

 Environment: N\A
 Area: Folders / Subfolders

Problem

Slow performance (cursor hangs) when navigating in folders
in PW Explorer. Intermiitant cursor, hourglass hangs, clicking on Fence, new sheet, or new model, etc.

Product: ProjectWise Server V8i
Version: 08.11.11.111
Area: General, Problem ID#: 87154, PROBLEMSOLVING

Solution

The Windows Server 2008 Virtual Machine in the Server Farm that was used as the Integration Server was the problem. User needed to reallocate the resources to improve performance and adjust how memory usage was
being handled in specific VM Ware settings. This was determined by examining the dmskrnl.logs and gathering the exceed statements that showed 6-10 seconds over the 1 second thresh hold which corresponded with the cursor hang (going hourglass) which came from navigating different folders in the datasource, or some miscellaneous selecting of
fence or sheets in Microstation.

The Select statements that came with the exceed threshold statements were tried on an Oracle client that was
on the Integration Server. These replies took 6-10 seconds to go the short distance across the Datacenter. When these same Select Statements were done on the Oracle Database Server - they were less than a second.

Problem

AutoCAD Captive Environment

User would like to turn on Captive environment for just AutoCAD and not other programs. The captive environment setting is all or nothing. He would like to keep his AutoCAD users from attaching xrefs from the desktop. Is there a setting for that?

Product: ProjectWise Client V8i
Version: 08.11.11.111
Area: Idesktop Integration, Problem ID#: 90213, PROBLEMSOLVING

Solution

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AutoCAD\ODMA32\Captive Environment]= "Disable"

This key is not delivered by default and if the key is absent or empty. It has the same effect as being set to "Disable".  If the value is set to "Enable" the 'Save to disk' and 'Open from Disk' buttons in the ProjectWise dialogs will be disabled. Captive environment does not
have to be set.

Problem

Revit Integration - AutoDesk Revit has stopped working. An unrecoverable
error has occurred.

Product: ProjectWise Client V8i
Version: 08.11.11.111
Area: Revit Integration, Problem ID#: 88488, PROBLEMSOLVING

Solution

Note:  If you disable Integration Revit works fine.

The problem turned out to be an access violation. We checked for any anti-virus or other
protection software and turned out the user had DeviceLock. This was causing issues with Revit integration by blocking the creation of the R drive. TSG's recommendation is to remove DeviceLock. Once Devicelock was
removed from one system, the PW/Revit integration worked fine.

The user had a workaround that involved modifying the registry.

Problem

'Access denied" configuration read/updated failed. External Module has
reported an error.

User has two head and one tail configuration. Indexing is on the tail.
any process the user tries to start via the doc processors in PWadmin he
gets 'access denied" configuration read/updated failed. External Module
has reported an error.

Product: ProjectWise Server V8i
Version: 08.11.11.111
Area: Orchestration Framework, Problem ID#: 86297, ERRORMESSAGE

Solution

The dmsafpengineconf.xml files are out of sync and this is likely the cause of the problem.

Gathered procmon and pwadmin logs and are currenlty reviewing them.
We then decided to take a shot and copy one of the c:\program
files\bentley\projectwise\bin\dmsafpengineconf.xml files around to all
three servers so they would be consistent.
We then restarted the services and ran a doc process and it appears to
have solved the problem. It is important to note that you may need to try a different version of
this file.

Any time you make a change to a user name and password or a change to
the index server location in the document processors, you will need to
copy the dmsafpengineconf.xml file to the other head\tail servers.
These are the only configurations that are stored in this file.

Problem

Is it possible to change the URL for the BTS Portal for Transmittals

Product: ProjectWise Server V8i
Version: 08.11.11.111
Area: General, Problem ID#: 87708, PROBLEMSOLVING

Solution

When configuring your portal software, the configuration above will
default your portal address to your server name, however you may wish to
use a specific URL for your portal for external users to access.

IIS does not let you change the host name of an https binding via the edit
button in this dialog: There is a way to change this host name value through a command line
tool, appcmd.

Keep in mind this site name needs to be resolvable
through DNS and the SSL certificate would need to be configured with
this host name in order for it to work.

To add a host header to a Web site's binding, use the following syntax:
appcmd set site /site.name:string /bindings.[protocol='string'
,bindingInformation='string'].bindingInformation:string

The variable site.name string is name of the site to which you want to
add a host header. The variable [protocol='string',bindingInf
ormation='string'] is the existing binding to which you want to add a host header, and bindingInformation string is the new binding with host header.

For example, to configure a site named contoso with an existing HTTPS
binding for all IP addresses, on port 443, without a host header to have
a host header named marketing, type the following at the command prompt,
and then press ENTER:

appcmd set site /site.name:contoso /bindings.[protocol='https'
,bindingInformation='*:443:'].bindingInformation:*:443:marketing

Error or Warning Message

Failed to update document code structure.
New code definitions can not be saved because some required fields are empty.

Explanation

When attempting to add or change document code on an existing environment, however there are existing documents in the environment without values for the attributes contained in the document code.

How to Avoid

  1. Undo the changes made in the "define document code" wizard

  2. Search ProjectWise Explorer for all files in the environment (be sure to select "find in this environment only")

  3. Add columns to your view for each of the attributes

  4. Select the documents from the search results that don't have values for the attributes

  5. Right click-modify

  6. Select the Environment tab and enter a value for the attributes (will change for all selected, so may need to do in smaller groups, depending on what the value needs to be)

  7. Back in ProjectWise Administrator, make the desired changes to the document code, and the wizard should finish without error
