Current Revision posted to Content Management - Wiki by Eddie Anderson on 9/30/2014 7:32:29 PM

GreenBooks are created by Bentley Professional Services to provide “Best Practices” as it relates to utilizing software solutions for the infrastructure lifecycle. This not only includes Bentley software, but others that are commonly used in infrastructure projects. The guides rely on the hundreds of Bentley Professional Services colleagues around the world in documenting best practices that have made our customers more efficient in their use of infrastructure software.

GreenBooks can take on various formats from a quick TechNote, How to Guide, Instructional Manual, White Paper, to a full Book format. All GreenBooks are provided in PDF format for downloading and printing. Because these are continually being updated with new information, always check online for the latest revision.

GreenBooks are often published in a Draft state first.  This allows for earlier access to potentially valuable information. Because of this fact, draft documents are sometimes less polished and could contain errors that a more extensive and time consuming review process would discover.

Error or Warning Message

Error 58510. Your ProjectWise user profile requires that you activate this ProjectWise product using the SELECT Server settings configured on this workstation.

However, a valid SELECT Server configuration could not be found, or the SELECT Server license is expired for this product.

This client will be denied access to the datasource. You may need to correct the SELECT Server configuration on this workstation.

Explanation

There is a setting in ProjectWise administrator that tells the client how to get its license and this ProjectWise user was configured to use thier local SELECTServer, but one was not configured.

How to Avoid

Option 1 change the user setting to have the user recieve the license from the Integration Server settings

  1. Log into ProjectWise Administrator

  2. Under users, go to the user account who is having the problem, right click properties, settings tab

  3. The fourth icon down should be ‘administrative’, then under that is ‘client licensing’

Option 2 Configure the PW Explorer machine to point to the SELECTServer

  1. Run C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin\licensetool.exe
  2. Confirm that the activation key and SELECTserver where connecting (under tools-options)
  3. Tools \ send logs now.

Option 3 When running through Citrix XenApp

1. On the server hosting the Citrix server, configure the licensetool.exe with the SELECTserver and activation key as described in option 2

When launched wizard sees the Sharepoint Website as IIS 7/7.5 web

This is a know issue that is very easy to miss. Usual indication
is if the web parts do not appear after deployment.

It usually means that the user used to launch the wizard
does not have the access to the SharePoint database, so it’s recommended to use
the same user account that was SharePoint deployed to be used for Web Server
deployment.

Also this issue happens when there is .NET4.5.1 installed in some configurations, please downgrade back to 4.0 .NET in order to be able to install the web parts correctly.

When crawling content sources times out with: "The filter daemon did not respond within the timeout limit"

This issue is fixable by increasing the timeout value in SharePoint:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee808862.aspx

When crawling content sources fails with: Error while crawling LOB contents. (Access denied by Business Data Connectivity. )

This could be related to SharePoint app pool user change after the installation was already accomplished.
This can be changed by manually changing BDC object access rights to a required
user.

Error or Warning Message

Could not connect to net.tcp://servername/PWTransmittalService/PWTransmittalService.svc.  The connection attempt lasted for a time span of 00:00:01.0031003.  TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it serverIP:808

Explanation

The Integration server was connecting to the incorrect port on the Transmittals Server.  This can also happen after an Integration Server upgrade, as it would revert back to the default settings of net.tcp://localhost...

How to Avoid

  1. Verify the net.tcp port that was configured during the setup of BTS server, in the IIS bindings

  2. On the Integration server, open the following file in notepad: C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\Bin\Bentley.ProjectWise.WCF.PWTransport.dll.config

  • Find the following line and make sure the servername and port is correct:

<RelayNode targetUri="net.tcp://myserver.bentley.com:808/PWTransmittalService/PWTransmittalService.svc" relayUri="net.pw://localhost/PWTransmittalService/PWTransmittalService.svc" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="PWTransmittalServiceNetTcp" tokenMode="UserCreds"/>

  • If this is a new, or upgraded, ProjectWise Integration Server, also make sure this is entered within the <netTcpBinding> element   (details can also be found in the BTSImplementationGuide.pdf provided with the Transmittals software-Manually Integrate with ProjectWise Integration Server After Deployment)

<binding name="PWTransmittalServiceNetTcp" openTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:10:00" receiveTimeout="00:45:00" closeTimeout="00:10:00" maxReceivedMessageSize="10000000">

Revision 1 posted to Content Management - Wiki by Arturas Baranauskas on 12/9/2014 8:34:02 AM

If suddenly you cannot connect to ProjectWise datasource and connection just seems to be "frozen' please check if you are using Oracle database.

If that is the case, please try to test your ODBC connection, in case during test phase it will show that user is expired proceed to change the password in oracle and set it to non expiring if it's allowed by your security policy.

If the password was changed please open PWIS dmskrnl.cfg file (located in:C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin) and find this section:

[db0]
Description=PW Datasouce Name
Type=Microsoft SQL Server
InterfaceType=ODBC
Name=ODBC name
DBUserName=DB_user_name
DBUsrPwdDecrypt=4
DBUserPassword=#A5H/X/Qae2lHlOqpEgNBNN9/TtkBUTmgopyZrBulgP3Ea2qFst8Sx1l8pUo=

Change last two lines:

DBUsrPwdDecrypt=1
DBUserPassword=new_pass

Please restart PWIS service afterwards and the new password will be re-encrypted.

This issue occurs when the Bentley Transmittal app pool user does not have enough rights to configure RSA token to continue installation and/or security access to directories.

There two possible ways to resolve the situation.

1 .If you already have tried to deploy once and Bentley Transmittal app pool is already created, change this app pool's identity(in advanced settings) to local domain account.

Afterwards in BTS install directory(C:\Program Files\Bentley\Transmittals\wizard\server) edit TransmittalServicesWizard.xml

Please make backup before you edit, then remove this entry:
         <appPools>
            <appPool name="Bentley Transmittal App Pool" managedPipelineMode="Integrated" managedRuntimeVersion="v4.0" enable32BitAppOnWin64="true" processModelIdentityType="ApplicationPoolIdentity" addAsUserToDb="True" loadUserProfile="True">
              <grantAccess directory="%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Bentley\Licensing" />
            </appPool>
          </appPools>

Save restart the wizard and the installation should complete.

2. Running this command might help without the edit needed:

cd C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 aspnet_regiis.exe -pa "IIS APPPOOL\Bentley Transmittal App Pool" -full

BTS error “The provider did not return a ProviderManifestToken string”

Revision 1 posted to Content Management - Wiki by Arturas Baranauskas on 12/12/2014 8:16:34 AM

Title

BTS error “The provider did not return a ProviderManifestToken string”

Symptoms

When accessing BTS (Bentley Transmittal Server) functionality via the “ProjectWise Explorer V8i (SELECTseries 4)” client application with the “Bentley Transmittal connector for ProjectWise” client addon installed (both applications packaged in package “129560-Bentley-PrjwiseReports-8.11.11574-EN-1.0”), the following error is displayed:

“The provider did not return a ProviderManifestToken string”

When checking the log file on the BTS server (“CSMSDC-VTMTP02:C:\Users\All Users\Bentley\Logs\LoggingService.log”) the following exception is listed:

“The following exception was thrown: The provider did not return a ProviderManifestToken string. Inner Exception: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.”

Cause

In order for BTS functionality to be available, the BTS server application (IIS Website “BTSserver” on CSMSDC-VTMTP02) requires access to the BTS database (database “BTS” on SQL Server instance “CSMPER-SQL36\SQL2008Prod1”). The access is enabled by the domain computer account “APAC\CSMSDC-VTMTP02$” having SQL “db_owner” permissions on the “BTS” database within the SQL Server instance.

However, due to a known issue in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, certain circumstances modify the behaviour of IIS such that it begins incorrectly using the identity “NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON” to authenticate with SQL Server. Since this identity does not have access to the “BTS” database, the BTS server is not able to access the database and BTS functionality fails. As per the reference 1 and reference 2 below, this issue can be temporarily resolved by restarting the IIS server (BTS server CSMSDC-VTMTP02). Installing the Microsoft hotfix as per reference 2 and reference 3 below may permanently solve the issue, however at the time of writing this has not been tested.

Installation and Setup

PLEASE NOTE:  For full installation instructions, please refer to the Bentley Transmittal Services (BTS) Implementation Guide provided with the software before posting questions.

1)      What is the recommended configuration for Bentley Transmittal Services?

BTS consists of three modules, Bentley Transmittal Server, Bentley Transmittal Portal and the Bentley Transmittal connector for ProjectWise, in addition to your existing ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 4) Integration Server (BTS does NOT function with prior SELECTseries versions of the Integration Server).  Each module should be installed on its own computer for optimal performance.

2)      What type of database is supported for Bentley Transmittal Services?

BTS currently is supported to run on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard or Express (see BTS readme for specific requirements.)  Oracle is not currently supported for the Bentley Transmittal Services database, but we do support an environment where your ProjectWise database is running on Oracle.

3)      What is Filestream and why does it need to be enabled?

Filestream is a feature of SQL 2008 that allows transmittals themselves to be stored in the database.  Enabling file stream on an existing database engine should not affect any existing databases any more than reporting services would affect them; it’s just another SQL feature.

Please read this link for more information on SQL FILESTREAM.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc949109.aspx

4)      Can I customize the cover letter?

Yes.  Variables can be added or removed to the Excel template file, see the Bentley Transmittal connector for ProjectWise help for a full list.  To modify the template simply modify the existing template that was imported into your ProjectWise datasource when running the initial BTS configuration wizard.

5)      Can I move the cover letter template to a new folder?

Yes, since ProjectWise uses a GUID (global unique ID) to identify documents, BTS will be able to find the template wherever it’s moved within the datasource.

6)      When running the Bentley Transmittal Server Deployment Wizard, why is my Integration Server not listed?

On your ProjectWise Integration Server, open dmskrnl.cfg and search for CADOperators (default setting is CADOperators=Administrators)

If the user that you are logged into the Transmittal Server machine is not a local administrator on the Integration server, add it to this list

  • Example: CADOperators=Administrators;domain\user.name

7)      Will Bentley Transmittal Services run in a load balanced cluster?

No. The Transmittal Service layer/portal does not support load balancing. You *can* load balance the PW Integration Servers, as long as they all point at the same Transmittal Service endpoint.

See the BTS Implementation guide for further instructions on how to configure BTS with a ProjectWise clustered environment.

8)  Can one Transmittal Server be configured to handle multiple datasources?

Each Bentley Transmittal Services instance is configured for one ProjectWise Integration Server. If that Integration server is configured with multiple datasources, you will have the ability to enable transmittals on each of those datasources.

9) After installing, I log into ProjectWise Administrator and am not prompted to enable transmittals in the datasource when it isn't already enabled.

What likely happened is that someone had already answered NO to the prompt to not enable transmittals in that datasource, which it will only ask once.  To then enable transmittals you can right click on the datasource after logging in through the Administrator and select All Tasks>Enable Bentley Transmittal Services for this datasource.  log out and log back in to get prompted to enable transmittals on that datasource.

10) My server is in a DMZ, what ports need to be open on the firewall?

When you configure your BTS Server you configured a net.tcp binding on your IIS Web Site, the port you chose to use is the port that is used from the Portal Server to the Transmittal Server and continuing to the ProjectWise Integration Server.

When you configure your Bentley Transmittal Portal, you similarly configured an IIS Web Site, this time with an https binding. This port is what users will connect over when accessing the portal through their web browser

PWE:

  • [Outgoing] [to PWIS machine] [TCP:5800] PW connection to PWIS and BTS-via-PWIS.

PWIS:

  • [Incoming] [from PWE clients] [TCP:5800] PW connection to PWIS
  • [Incoming] [from BTS client] [TCP:5800] PW connection to PWIS
  • [Outgoing] [to BTS machine] [TCP:<IIS/net.tcp>] connection from PWE via PWIS on a TCP port defined for IIS site where BTS services are deployed.
  • [Outgoing] [to PW Database machines] [TCP:<depends on db>]

BTS:

  • [Incoming] [from PWIS machine] [TCP:<IIS/net.tcp>] connection from PWE via PWIS on a TCP port defined for IIS site where BTS services are deployed.
  • [Incoming] [from Portal machine] [TCP:<IIS/net.tcp>] connection from Portal on a TCP port defined for IIS site where BTS services are deployed.
  • [Incoming] [from Portal machine] [TCP/HTTP(80) ] connection from Portal deployment app for service discovery on a http port (80).
  • [Outgoing] [to PWIS machine] [TCP:5800] PW connection to PWIS.
  • [Outgoing] [to BTS Database machine] [TCP:1433] SQL server connection

Portal:

  • [Outgoing] [to BTS machine] [TCP:<IIS/net.tcp>] connection from Portal on a TCP port defined for IIS site where BTS services are deployed.
  • [Outgoing] [to BTS machine] [TCP/HTTP(80) ] connection from Portal deployment app for service discovery on a http port (80).
  • [Incoming] [from user machines] [TCP/HTTP(80)/HTTPS(443)] connection to Portal IIS, depending on site settings.

11)  What process should be followed to upgrade Transmittals to a newer version:

The upgrade process for both Transmittals Server and Portal is similar to that of ProjectWise, in that you must uninstall and reinstall the software, with the additional steps of undeploying and redeploying through the wizard.

These are the steps to be take for each Portal and Server software:

1- Run the deployment wizard and select undelploy

2- Uninstall the software

3-Install the new version

4-run the deployment wizard and deploy

12) Must client and server versions be the same, or can the connector piece be upgraded prior to the server (or vice versa)

New client+old server configuration was not tested with the latest version. As per developers, the latest fixes should not brake new client+old server compatibility, but as I already mentioned, it is not certified scenario.  There were a number of improvements  between the old and the new builds. So, we recommend upgrading the servers and client at the same time. This is common upgrade scenario which is tested.

ProjectWise Explorer

1)      Can I enable multiple projects at once for BTS?

No, you must go to the properties of each project that needs it, and enable Bentley Transmittal Services. Once enabled, you can copy settings from another project that you have already configured.

2)      Why are the OK and Apply buttons greyed out in the Transmittal Settings in ProjectWise Explorer?

Make sure your user has the user setting “Allow user to change project types and project properties” turned on.

3)   When issuing a transmittal, I get the error “Cover letter generation has failed while filing the cover letter.  Class not registered”

Verify that Microsoft Excel is installed (see the BTS Readme for specific requirements)

4)   What happens if the number of transmittals I have in my project exceeds the number of digits I set in the Transmittal settings?

The number will automatically increment beyond the limit.

Portal

1)   When downloading content, Internet Explorer gives this error that it cannot be downloaded

Check your browser settings under Internet Options and turn off the setting under Security “Do not save encrypted pages to disk”

2)   Why can’t I see a thumbnail of the documents, “preview not available”?

Thumbnails are not available in V1.0

3)   My link sets aren’t appearing from the downloaded transmittal package

Transmittal packages do not currently support the adding of documents with link sets, if the linked documents exist in a different folder than the master document

4)   Why am I getting a corrupt file message when trying to download cover letter file from portal after changing my ProjectWise datasource name?

Renaming the ProjectWise datasource after configuring Bentley Transmittal Services is not recommended, as it can break certain Bentley Transmittal Services functionality.  To restore full functionality, change the datasource name back to what it was during the BTS install.

5)   Why am I getting an Internet Explorer dialog asking “Do want to stop running this script?” if you have lots of documents (About 700) in one folder or choose “Show all folder content”.

This is standard behavior for IE8.  To resolve this, upgrade to IE 9.  If upgrading to IE 9 is not an option, use the folder tree and save smaller amount of documents in each folder (ex 200 in one folder.) This work-around will solve the issue until pressing “Show all folder content” button.

6)   I opened a master file from my transmittal package, but the references are not appearing.

When you download the package, it will be a zip file, you must first extract the zip file before opening the files and it will find the valid reference files.

7) Can one Transmittal Portal be configured for multiple Transmittal Servers?

No.  Each portal is configured for one Transmittal Server.

8) What if I need to change the portal link in my transmittals email, my users cannot reach the https:\\servername\portal

Please see the following technote: http://communities.bentley.com/products/projectwise/content_management/w/wiki/configure-bentley-transmittals-portal-for-projectwise-to-use-a-specific-url.aspx

9) How do I customize the headline on the Portal site?

There are two files, one for the logon screen and another for the other pages of the portal.  They are both changed in the same manner.

C:\Program Files\Bentley\Transmittals\portal\views\account\logon.cshtml

C:\Program Files\Bentley\Transmittals\portal\views\shared\_Layout.cshtml

 The line that needs to be changed is
<span class="clientHeader">@View.Layout_CustomizableHeadline</span>

by changing the entire section between the ><, you can change the headline.

For example:
<span class="clientHeader">This is my headline</span>

 10) Has there been any expansion of the supported browsers?

A list of supported browsers is left the same as in V1.0 (01.00.01.130). No additional browsers support added. We are going to review the list and probably expand it for V2.0.

Issue:

In the ProjectWise v8i search form (full text tab), if you type in a known noise word (e.g. and) into the search field (Look for :) with the Look inside set to "File Contents" and the Return Documents set to "Including exact phrase".

ProjectWise V8 XM the search does not return any values – noise words are ignored, however ProjectWise V8i will return the results when searching for noise words.

Solution:

ProjectWise is using Windows Indexing to search for files, if the window search finds a document than PW will also show it. It works differently with different OS for noise word.

Please go through below mentioned link to avoid this in Windows Server 2008.

Error or Warning Message

Mapped error code: 55042
File contention error. The file operation could not be completed because the server copy of the file is currently being accessed by another user. You may wish to try your request again.

Explanation

User is unable to checkout, checkin, or create new files or projects.

The problem has to do with the storage area for the files.  There is something on the server preventing Projectwise from writing to the hard drive on the server.

How to Avoid

  1. Check to make sure there is enough free disk space where the storage area lives.
  2. Check to make antivirus has not locked down the storage area
  3. Check to make sure there are no restrictive permissions set on the folders on the storage area.

Overview

  ProjectWise provides a method to link ProjectWise attributes to a custom property of Microsoft Word files.  This is done by having the application integrated with ProjectWise through Idesktop integration and through the "Attributes Exchange Rules \ MS Office Attribute Support" which is accessed through the ProjectWise administrator.  In general, a "Word Template" is created that already have all the custom properties defined and bound to ProjectWise.  Using the template with the custom properties will make it easier for the user to create new word documents with the required information.

Knowledge Level

This technote assumes that the user is familiar with ProjectWise attributes, environments, and the concept of attribute exchange. Please refer to the ProjectWise administrator help if you are not familiar with those concepts.

ProjectWise Administrator Preliminary Setup

 1. A ProjectWise environment containing Attributes will need to be created to allow users to add information about the document.

2. In the Attribute Exchange Rules, set the MS Office Attribute Support properties by "right click" and select Properties. This will control when the custom property field in the word document will be updated. Available options are:

Document is "Opened"

Document is "Checked out"

Document is "Copied out"

3. Expand MS Office Attribute Support, then Right Click the CustProperties section and select create a "NewàAttribute". NOTE: The name you give the attribute will be the same name that you will add to the documents custom properties section that will be described below.

4. A "New Attribute Wizard" will step you through creating the attribute and binding it to different Property types.

When binding to a ProjectWise Environment Property the information from the environment attribute will update the custom property field in the word document.

Please refer to the ProjectWise Administrator Help, for complete details of bindings.

5. Now that the Attributes and Bindings have been created you will want to copy the delivered sample file(s) into ProjectWise to create the template. The file(s) can be found in the default installation directory of ProjectWise, "C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\doc" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\ProjectWise\Samples". Copy the appropriate version of the Microsoft Word document you are using into a ProjectWise folder:

idAttributeExchangeConfig2007.docx (Word 2007)

 idAttributeExchangeConfig.doc (Word 2003)

6. After the files have been copied to ProjectWise, open the file via ProjectWise with the appropriate version of Microsoft Word and modify the file to your preferred template layout. NOTE: Each one of the files have information describing the process of attribute exchange. It is recommended that you use these delivered files to create your company/project templates.

7. When ready you will then create the custom property. NOTE: The name of the custom property needs to match the Attribute you created in the administrator, see step 3.

Steps to create a custom property and using the Insert Field command in word to display the ProjectWise Attribute.

  • Word 2010 Steps:

1. Click on the File tab. On the right side of the screen you will see the file properties

2. Select Document Properties pull down then Advanced Properties

3. Select the Custom tab. In the Name section create the name of the custom property and add any value to it. NOTE: This will aid in the next steps when inserting the custom property as a field. It will allow the field to be visible.

4. Exit out of the custom property.

5. On the Insert ribbon, in the Text group, click Quick Parts, then select Field.

6. In the Field names select box, locate the DocProperty item. When you select that option you will notice that your custom property you created will be added to the select box.

7. Select the custom property you created and then select the OK button. You should now see the custom property value where your cursor was located in the word document.

  • Word 2007 Steps:

1. Main menu select PrepareàProperties (If integrated properly the ProjectWise property dialog should open. Simply cancel that dialog to get the word properties)

  • Word 2003 Steps:

1. File menu select Properties, (If integrated properly the ProjectWise property dialog should open. Simply cancel that dialog to get the word properties)

2. Select the Custom tab. In the Name section create the name of the custom property and add any value to it. NOTE: This will aid in the next steps when inserting the custom property as a field. It will allow the field to be visible.

3. Exit out of the custom property.

4. In the Insert menu, select the Field option.

5. In the Field names select box locate the DocProperty item. When you select that option you will notice that the custom property you created will be added to the select box.

6. Select the custom property you created and then select the OK button. You should now see the custom property value where your cursor was located in the word document.

Verify the attribute exchange is working

1. Now that the custom property has been created, and the field inserted, save and check in the document.

2. Inside of ProjectWise, modify the documents properties attribute tab in the Environment that is bound to the custom property. (Right click the document; choose properties, then attributes tab. Be sure your interface is set correctly to allow you to see the attributes for the environment.)

3. Open the word document. You should now see the value of the field that you inserted change to the ProjectWise attribute value.

How to edit the property in Word and then update ProjectWise with the new value.

  1. Open the document from ProjectWise
  2. For Word 2010
    1. Go to File, then on the right side you see the properties of the file (got to step 4)
  3. For Word 2007
    1. On the Main menu select Prepare Properties (got to step 4)
  4. Click the pull down on Properties and choose advanced Properties
  5. On the Custom tab, highlight the custom property and then in the value section change the value, then click okay
  6. If you are editing more than one property click the modify button after each value change then click okay
  7. Back in the document, right click the field you modified and choose update field.  (This updates the document with the value you changed in the document properties dialog)
  8. Click the ProjectWise tab, then choose update Projectwise

Trouble Shooting

Word has to be integrated with ProjectWise for this to work.  If you are having trouble with the Word Integration through the Idesktop Integration tool, integrate ALL of the Microsoft products save and exit.  Then go back and un-integrate the office applications you don't want to be integrated with ProjectWise

Word 2003

  • If no values are updated make sure the security level in the word document allows macros.

Word 2007

  • Verify in the "Word Options" in the Add-Ins section that ProjectWise is not in the "Disabled Application" section.
