Problem

A user is unable to open a MicroStation file from ProjectWise, getting an Error 222.

Solution

1. Verify the Program association: First check which Application your file is defined as on the Document>Properties.  Then go to Tools>Associations>Programs and make sure that the association for that given application is using the correct MicroStation. If a user has manually added a Program association then remove it and try to verify the error persist.

2. If a user is newly created then verify that he is having Read/Write access to an all Workspace folder.  (Seek help from ProjectWise Administrator if required)

3. Try using different PW login on the same system.

4. If PW is recently updated then check if a user is having a compatible version of Microstation.

Check ProjectWise Version Support Matrix

5. Try opening a Microstation file outside a ProjectWise, then import back to PW then try opening a file.

If you have tried all the above solutions and still get the error then submit your Service request here.

To view files stored in a ProjectWise repository (also known as a datasource), you need to set up a connection to the repository.

NOTE: Before making a connection, make sure CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) is configured on your Web Services Gateway server (WSG). Follow these instructions to learn more and configure CORS:

  1. From the Manage Connections page, click New Connection.
  2. In the Create New Connection dialog that opens, enter a name for your connection in the Connection Name field.
  3. From the Repository Type dropdown, select the type of repository to which you want to connect.  Additional fields display in the Create New Connection dialog.
  4. In the Server Url field, type in the server URL provided by Bentley Web Services Gateway. Check with your IT administrator for this URL.
  5. Click Get Datasource to connect to the server and get a list of available repositories.
  6. From the Datasource dropdown, select the desired repository.
  7. Enter your Username and Password in the appropriate fields.
  8. From the Work Area dropdown, select the desired Work Area.
  9. If you wish, you can provide a Description.

Revision 7 posted to Content Management Wiki by Mary Kay Sheahan on 12/27/2019 9:56:20 PM

The list of items is organized by the columns, Name, Version, Description, File Name, File Size, and Date Modified. When you select a column header, the list is sorted by that attribute. For example, if you select the Name column header, the items list displays the item names in alphabetical order. You can select any column header to sort the list in ascending or descending order within the column.

You can filter the list or remove filters by selecting the filter icon in the column header. To filter the list, select the filter icon  in the column header. If you have already applied a filter, the filter icon displays in green. If you wish to remove the filter, select Clear from the dialog that displays. If you wish to add a filter, enter filter information in the dialog.

The dialog allows you to show the items in the list with a value that has some relationship to your data.  You can filter based on “equals,” “does not equal,” “contains,” “does not contain,” “starts with,” “ends with,” “does not have value,” and “has value.”

For example, if you select “starts with” and type the word “Project” into the field, the list will show only the items which have names which start with the word “Project.”

When you have selected the relationship type, enter the data into the field on the right of the dropdown, and select Filter.

Revision 8 posted to Content Management Wiki by Mary Kay Sheahan on 12/27/2019 10:04:21 PM

To view the properties of a file or folder, select the checkbox next to the item and click the properties icon. The properties pane displays. For folders, the pane displays the Date Created and the Last Modified date. For files, the pane can display more properties including detailed information like Project Number, Project Location, Percent Complete, and Approved By. If you select multiple items, the properties pane displays the number of items selected.

To close the properties pane, click the X in the top right of the pane.

 Version(s):08.11.11.559
 Area: Installation
 Subarea:
Original Author:Molly Watts, Bentley Technical Support Group

Error or Warning Message

Error 58510. Your ProjectWise user profile requires that you activate this ProjectWise product using the SELECT Server settings configured on this workstation.

However, a valid SELECT Server configuration could not be found, or the SELECT Server license is expired for this product.

This client will be denied access to the datasource. You may need to correct the SELECT Server configuration on this workstation.

Explanation

There is a setting in ProjectWise administrator that tells the client how to get its license and this ProjectWise user was configured to use their local SELECTServer, but one was not configured.

How to Avoid

Option 1 change the user setting to have the user receive the license from the Integration Server settings

  1. Log into ProjectWise Administrator

  2. Under users, go to the user account who is having the problem, right click properties, settings tab

  3. The fourth icon down should be ‘administrative’, then under that is ‘client licensing.

Option 2 Configure the PW Explorer machine to point to the SELECTServer

  1. Run C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin\licensetool.exe
  2. Confirm that the activation key and SELECTserver where connecting (under tools-options)
  3. Tools \ send logs now.

Option 3 When running through Citrix XenApp

1. On the server hosting the Citrix server, configure the licensetool.exe with the SELECTserver and activation key as described in option 2

Option 4: When the error is found using ProjectWise Web Client

1. In this case, the ProjectWise Web server is acting as the "client" machine.  So configure licencetool.exe on the Web Server as described in option 2

Revision 2 posted to Content Management Wiki by Vickie.Hewitt on 2/3/2020 7:56:22 PM

There is no “Silver Bullet” when it comes to improving performance with integrated Civil 3d. Every error cleaned up makes a difference.

PLEASE TEST in your environment before applying this to Production data.

  • NO WORKING ON PROJECT FILES OUTSIDE OF PROJECTWISE EXPLORER – EVER
Do NOT export them and then import them after editing. Do NOT edit them directly in your working directory. This is the number 1 cause for slow performance.
  • ProjectWise version needs to be current – each version has performance improvements and additional features.
Project Participants (that work in Civil 3d) should be using ProjectWise version 10.00.03.271 as of 01/01/2020

  • Installation of ProjectWise Data Shortcut editor – Only for the users that create, edit and control the data shortcuts. The data shortcut file should be maintained so that it is as error free as possible. Remember that when you have the DSProj file open it is checked out to you and nobody else can change it.

  • Add DMSSET commands to the Civil3d startup LISP or to the profile
    • If using Sheet Set Manager set SharedSheetSets = 1 & SheetSetUnlockTime = 10 (sec) to 3 or 5.
    • Use #HOOKLESSREPATH = 1 to automatically repair broken data shortcuts
    • Set SHEETCHECKUPDATETIME = 120 (Sec) to 4 (240) or 5 min (300) to lengthen the time between checking for reference file changes.
    • INDEXCTL = 3 To organize files by layer and spatial data for faster file open and recalculation. (See the Autodesk help and website for more info on this.)

  • The workstation should have as much memory as possible. Set virtual memory to 2x physical memory. (From the Autodesk discussion group)

  • Each user’s ProjectWise network settings need to be adjusted so that only the needed datasources display. – Improves the connection and reconnection time.

  • In ProjectWise Explorer create specific program names and Open actions in for every version. i.e. Civil3D 2016, Civil 3d 2017, … Using less specific program groups (such as ACLauncher) can cause integration to fail or open more slowly. Program groups should be like “AutoCAD.acadCivil3d.Drawing.PW.22.0.”
By default the current template includes these program groups.

This article is on revision 2 and will be incorporated into the Green Book during 2020.

Please feel free to add comments and additional information.

Troubleshooting Projectwise DMSCONV issues

Overview: When a new version of Projectwise is released, there are often updates to the database schema. This requires the user to run the DMSCONV.exe when upgrading to the latest version.

This document will describe steps for logging and troubleshooting errors if the database conversion (DMSCONV) fails.

Products and versions:

  • Projectwise Design Integration Server, all versions.
  • Projectwise Administrator, all versions

Pre-requisites \ Assumptions \ Preliminary setup:

  • Before upgrading, it is best practice to setup a test environment to run through the database conversion (DMSCONV).
  • Items needed
    • Windows server compatible with the version of Projectwise you are upgrading
    • Projectwise Integration and Administrator installed on the test machine
    • A copy of your production database restored to a compatible database server with the version of Projectwise you are upgrading.
    • Administrative login to the Integration test server.
    • Access to the SQL or Oracle Server managers for viewing tables if needed.
  • Knowledge and experience
    • DOS commands
    • setup an ODBC connection from integration server to database server.
    • Use of SQL or Oracle Management interface
    • Reading log files and understanding SQL statements

Steps

Configure logging The DMSCONV utility can log the actions it takes when converting the database. The resulting log can help when troubleshooting issues.

  • Go to C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin and open dmsconv.log.xml in notepad.
  • Set the following priority values to ALL, then save and exit the file.

<category name="pwise.database.schema">        <priority value="ALL"/>

<root>        <priority value="ALL" />

Running DMSCONV

Detailed steps for running the dmsconv utility are in the Projectwise Implementation guide

Review the Log

  1. After running the DMSCONV utility go to the C:\Users\Public\Bentley\Logs and open the dmsconv.log file in notepad or your favorite ascii text editor.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the file to see the status of the dmsconv and any error messages.

Known issues

  1. Dmsconv fails because of a custom index.

Remove any custom indexes before running dmsconv. The custom indexes can be added back to the database once the database has been successfully converted.

  1. Dmsconv fails to run because of an incorrect username or password
